Can AI Build Your Business Dashboard? Here's What to Check Before Trusting the Numbers

Anthropic added a beta feature that lets Claude build live dashboards from business data. A chart that looks right can still be wrong, so here is what to check first.

What changed

On October 8, 2026, Anthropic released Claude Dashboards in beta on its paid plans. You connect a data source, such as a database or a CRM like Salesforce, ask a question in plain language, and Claude builds a dashboard that updates as the data changes. Clicking a number shows the query behind it, and each chart shows when its data was last refreshed. Anthropic released Claude Motion, which turns charts and reports into short animations, at the same time, in beta for Team and Enterprise plans.

The honest nuance

It is a beta, and Anthropic's announcement does not say how often the results are right. Most of the listed data connections are tools larger companies use, like Snowflake, BigQuery or Databricks, so many small businesses will not be able to plug in their data directly yet. The bigger point applies to any AI tool that makes charts: a clean, confident chart can rest on a wrong assumption, such as the wrong date range, counting refunds as sales or mixing up two similar fields. Showing the query helps, but only if someone actually reads it.

Why it matters for your business

Owners make real decisions from a handful of numbers: how much stock to order, how many staff to schedule, which product is worth promoting, whether you can afford a new expense. If AI makes building a report take minutes instead of an afternoon, more owners will actually look at their data, which is a good thing. But a wrong number that looks official is worse than no number, because it feels safe to act on. The time you save building the chart is worth spending on checking it.

What to actually do

Before you trust any AI-built chart, check it against one or two numbers you already know for certain, such as last month's total sales from your payment system or your bank balance. Ask the tool to explain in plain words what each number includes and excludes, and which date range it used. Write down simple definitions for the few metrics you rely on, like what counts as a sale or an active customer, and give them to the tool every time. For anything you will spend money on, have a person confirm the key figure from the original source first.
